When path dashboards miss the edge

Core link green lights can hide edge degradation if application analytics never see the last hop your users actually cross.

Enterprise network boards love the middle of the path. Backbone utilisation looks calm, data-centre links report healthy loss, and yet the remote office still stalls on a partner API. Application analytics for enterprise network observability only works when the edge — VPN concentrators, SD-WAN overlays, last-mile hand-offs — emits signals the same review board consumes.

Start by listing journeys that leave your controlled core. Then check whether those journeys produce completion and latency events tagged with path class, not only with service name. Gaps between “network is fine” and “users are waiting” usually show up as tickets without matching path alerts.

A practical fix is to pair core link SLIs with edge completion SLIs and review both in the same weekly pack.
